About Dunfanaghy...

Dunfanaghy is a small harbour village in the Sheephaven Bay area of Donegal in the northwest of Ireland. Donegal is known for it's rugged beauty and Dunfanaghy is no exception. Located between the hills and the Atlantic Ocean Dunfanaghy boasts a Blue Flag beach, the spectacular Hornhead cliffs and much more but don't take our word for it you can come and see for yourself.

 

Things to do...

In the village...

You can take in the magnificent scenery at your own pace whether you choose to drive, cycle or walk there is much to see and do in Dunfanaghy & the surrounding areas. Enjoy horse riding across Killyhoey our beautiful Blue Flag beach located at the foot of Hornhead or for those with a head for heights why not take a trip up to the top of Hornhead cliffs and look down on the village and the Atlantic Ocean. Golfers can enjoy a leisurely game on the 18 hole golf course located just five minutes away from the Main Street.

and in the surrounding area...

For the adventurous there is scuba diving & surfing.

You can take a short 10/15 minute drive to Marble Hill where you can stroll along the beautiful Marble Hill strand and visit the spa in The Shandon Hotel for some relaxation and pampering.

Ards Forest Park is only 15 minutes drive and has a number of marked walking routes through the forest and along the beach.

Glenveagh National Park and Castle in the Derryveagh Mountains has marked walks and guided tours of the castle.

Information on the numerous local walking routes is available from Arnold's Hotel, The Shandon Hotel and Corcreggan Mill.

Hill walking enthusiasts can climb Muckish mountain or tackle Errigal the highest mountain in Donegal and set in the picturesque Poisoned Glen where you may also visit The Dunlewey Lakeside Centre.

Dunfanaghy has three local lakes popular with anglers - Sessiagh, New Lake & Purt, for permits and boats contact Arnolds Hotel. Fishing & coastal trips leave form Port Na Blagh Pier or boat trips to Tory Island and Innisboffen Island leave from Magheroarty Pier.

Why not take in some local history and have a bite to eat in The Workhouse Heritage Centre and next door The Gallery is well worth a visit for art, crafts and antiques.
